Ferrara

Ferrara, city of art and UNESCO heritage

Ferrara is a splendid city, which reached its maximum splendor during the dominion of the Este family, which attracted great men of letters and artists, and made the city one of the most active centres of the Italian Renaissance.
After being property of the papal kingdom at the end of the 16th century, Ferrara experienced the Napoleonic rule, after which the city was the protagonist of numerous insurrectional movements, which ended with its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy. Today the city is UNESCO heritage.

The historic center of Ferrara is a jewel of Renaissance art.

The Castello Estense, built in 1385, was a defensive fortress, later converted into a court residence, during the reign of Ercole I d'Este.
Palazzo Schifanoia, splendid place for receptions and entertainmentthat with the famous Sala dei Mesi,  It is part of the so-called “Estensi delights”.

An absolute masterpiece of Renaissance architecture is Palazzo dei Diamanti, with its characteristic diamond-pointed stone façade, home to the national art gallery.
Not to mention the Monastery of Sant'Antonio in Polesine, founded in 1249 by order of Beatrice II d'Este and the suggestiveChurch of Corpus Christi, which preserves the tombs of many Este nobles.

A splendid city, a small open-air art museum…
